Six for six.

Fusion continues to be a superior gaming periodical. For those not in the know, it is a monthly magazine which covers all aspects of gaming culture. This includes: reviews of new titles, reflections on classic games and hardware, interviews with developers, and articles about arcade games, handheld games, tabletop games and toys. Basically it is a nostalgia blast for children aged from 30 to 60! I was a Kickstarter backer for the 2019 annual, but I didn't actually read that fine publication until the start of this year. No sooner had I finished than I up and ordered everything that bears the title FUSION, and I mean EVERYTHING!! The small form factor and high quality paper just feels good in the hand. It even has some kind of strange nostalgic papery smell. Remember when magazines were printed, on paper?! Cover art is always eye catching and each issue comes with a small collectible card featuring the art without any of the cover dressing which is a nice touch. Plus you know, collectibles. Reviews are wide ranging, from indie to triple A and encompass all the major systems. These are generally unbiased and as a result I have sought out a few games on Steam to try for myself. Regular features are for the most part very enjoyable and are all provided by enthusiastic contributers. My personal favourites are Craig Turner (from Retro Revival Events) with arcade machine histories, interviews with the Oliver Twins about their classic games, and the Frey Archive showcasing classic Oliver Frey art from old issues of ZZAP which transports me back in time to my local newsagent wishing I had more pocket money. The online shop is very easy to use, and a big thank you to Chris for personally ensuring that everything makes it's way to you even in these challenging times. An absolute gentleman. I look forward to reading my way through the rest of the issues and will be eagerly awaiting my next issue each month. Just a class act through and through.

Quality content and printing.

Another hit from the fusion team. Great quality printing and the usual variety of content. Interesting article on Fuze for the switch and found the reviews of Mr Do! and A Plague Tale really useful.

A trip down memory lane

The classic game ‘Cannon Fodder’ appears as the front cover artwork, on the collectors card, and in the article in the making of ‘Cannon Fodder’ inside the mag. I particularly liked the articles on ‘Hoarding for Beginners’ (something I have started to do re retro games); the top 5 games for the Sega Mega Drive – who can forget ‘Desert Strike’ and of course ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’; the game ‘Penetrator’ (the ZX Spectrum port of the arcade game ‘Scramble’); the game ‘Mr Do’ for the ZX Spectrum; and the story behind Fuse a new BASIC for the Nintendo Switch. There is also a very interesting article by Neil Thomas of Retro Man Cave fame who looks back 26 years to his first computer expo.

Great mix of articles

Unfortunately due to it's a5 format I struggled reading the print. But still loved the variety of subjects covered. I would say some articles felt a little short, but overall thought it was good value for money and entertaining.
